Yearly Brosaleigh ‘25

Every musician runs a record store in their head, thumbing through a stack of vinyl to say, ‘Here, this record changed my life.’ I love that thought. How would each of our record stores look? Infinitely cooler than any one of our social media pages, that’s for sure.

Naturally we talk to plenty of musicians about the artists they listen to in their proverbial record stores. We’ve written twice about the music of Salt Lake City indie artist Josaleigh Pollett in 2025. Moths and Giraffes interviewed them for their first UK gig at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton, and more recently for her latest single ‘Radio Player’ in October.

Josaleigh’s record store comes in the form of their weekly playlist entitled ‘Weekly Brosaleigh’. Available on Apple Music, Spotify and TIDAL, this is the regular spot where Pollett champions his latest finds. So we thought it would be pretty cool to ask Josaleigh to compile an unranked top ten of their favourites from 2025. We’ve also put these songs into a handy Spotify playlist for you to check out below. Over to you bro!

“It’s been about two years of my weekly playlist, ‘Weekly Brosaleigh,’ (‘brosaleigh’ was my Myspace name and has stuck with me as a nickname ever since) and every single week it brings me immense joy to compile it. I update it every Monday, which thank god I set that standard, because it makes me start every week with something I look forward to sharing. Mostly it’s built from new songs I heard the previous week that I really like, but occasionally it’ll be an oldie that’s new to me, or follow some sort of theme. It makes me feel incredibly cool and grateful that other people trust my taste enough to regularly follow the weekly bro, and nothing makes me happier than when someone gets excited to tell me about a new artist that they loved that they discovered on the playlist. I try to highlight smaller, independent artists as much as possible, but the playlist does run the spectrum of my tastes - and staying honest to what I’m enjoying is important to me. You can expect to see lots of smaller artists on there, but I’m not above including a new mainstream pop song if it’s hitting for me.”

‘I probably say this every year, but 2025 has been one of the greatest years for new music. Every week, knowing what to include in the playlist was digging through a seemingly endless treasure trove of incredible new stuff. It was so hard to pick my ten favorite songs I featured on the weekly playlist this year, but Teri made me. :)’

“This Leeds, UK based band put this album out in January. My best friend Jordan doesn’t listen to nearly as much new music as I do - he gets a bit more obsessed with a small handful of things - so when something on the Weekly Bro inspires him to reach out to me and say ‘wow this was so good,’ I know I’ve struck gold. Months after I put this song on the playlist, Jordan told me he’d been listening a bunch and couldn’t put this song down.” – Josaleigh

‘When I hear this song, it’s like I’m experiencing a memory that isn’t mine. A montage of Super 8 that in isolation feels kind of nice, but it’s knowing how everything plays out that makes it all feel kind of sad. Seeing Los Angeles artist Winter following this band on Instagram doesn’t surprise me at all, Winter has been a love of mine in 2025 and this track plays right into the same emotions.’ – Moths and Giraffes

“Gothenburg’s Sarah Klang is so god damn prolific. Every one of her albums has at least a few songs on them that feel like they defy decades and time and space itself. They make you stop what you’re doing and say ‘certainly I’ve heard this song before, I feel like it shaped me as a person,’ but they’re new and special and you’re hearing it for the first of one billion times in one billion lifetimes.” – Josaleigh

“I disagree with one of the comments on this video likening ‘Haze’ to Fleetwood Mac. I like the Mac a lot but their music for me is firmly cemented in decades past – something this track is not. ‘Haze’ to me feels very now, full of the confusion about how we’re all supposed to feel about each other. And yet, how catchy is this song? This should be on the radio. Maybe that’s what the commenter was getting at.” – Moths and Giraffes

“‘THE CALL TO 911 DROPPED AND I FELT LIKE A CHILD AGAIN’ has gotta be one of the most gut-dropping lines ever written. The banjo on this song goes so hard, it soothes you as the lyrics continue to punch you in the gut the whole time.” – Josaleigh

“This track doesn’t let up for a second and I love that. Mel Bleker’s vocal delivery reminds me of being eighteen again and hearing songs like ‘Sweet Disposition’ by The Temper Trap, but with an entirely different musical framework built around it. It’s like emo wrapped in acoustic instruments that still go just as hard. Jason Hayes is also killing it behind the drum kit!” – Moths and Giraffes

‘Chicago’s Moontype is continuously releasing some of the most interesting and beautiful and heartfelt indie rock. This song captures the fear and pain and longing of being alive and I still can’t get enough.’ – Josaleigh

‘The truth will hurt too much, the walls you built are strong enough.’ What a gut-wrenching lyric. I’m knocked back by the words in this song. How many people are afraid to be vulnerable? What’s the worst that can happen, truly? I’m still processing how tight this music is too. You can imagine Moontype rehearsing this in a tiny room with big grins as it all comes together. Or maybe that’s how I’d look if I could do something this cool.” – Moths and Giraffes

“Sometimes a song gets into my brain so hardcore that I have to stew in it for days. Hitting repeat over and over and laying on the floor and dancing like a goob around the house to it. This was one of those songs, and when I put it on the playlist, I had a few folks reach out and be like ‘what the fuck is in this song, I can’t stop listening to it.’ What a joy to share that experience of goobdom.” – Josaleigh

‘This song feels like it could’ve come from 1980. From its rudimentary drum machine circuitry to a vocalist deciding not to take any shit with her from the previous decade and embracing the sound of a brand-new one. It’s got the rallying lyrical punch of Poly Styrene, with timeless affirmations as strong as the bridge Sophia Kennedy drives over.’ – Moths and Giraffes

‘It’s impossible to feel anything but good old fashioned rock n’ roll glee when listening to this band. I fucking love every second of this song and I, too, love Holly Hunter.’ – Josaleigh

‘Tracks like this remind me why all I wanted to do as a teenager was play in a band. This is so much fun – definitely watch the video to see Florry in action. A band with a mandolin player and pedal steel player? Sign me up! I’ve just seen Florry are playing the Moth Club in London in 2026, so I might have to go.’ – Moths and Giraffes

‘When shit fucking sucks like it did in the U.S. this year, I am soooo drawn to joyful, goofy, playful songs. This song is pure purple joy shot straight into the heart. I dare you not to smile.’ – Josaleigh

‘I’ve had this song in my head for days. This might be the soundtrack to getting ice cream with your crush on a beautiful day. I can see the blue sky from here and life is gorgeous.’ – Moths and Giraffes

‘I love Wand and every time Cory Hanson releases something new, I’m first in line. This song is the moment in a movie when you finally see the anti-hero self-realize the character growth you know they’ve always needed. The credits are coming. You are going to be okay.’ – Josaleigh

“The variety in this playlist is wonderful. The lyric here really encapsulates the feeling of loneliness, but also the protection it provides. ‘No one can corrupt what they can't get inside, no one's gonna hurt what they can't find,’ sums this up. There’s no danger if you never leave your house or interact with anyone, but what a colourless, desolate existence it would be.” – Moths and Giraffes

‘How lucky to live in a world where absolute LEGEND Diane Cluck keeps putting out new incredible music. This song transports you to a place within the walls of the room where sticky memories live.’ – Josaleigh

“‘House Tears’ makes me think of those in-between days. You’d seen a lot of people the day before, and will do again the day after. But today? You’re on your own, just pottering around your home, and maybe that time alone is comforting, but there’s also a lot of time to think. You start appreciating the quiet, but look forward to being with people again. Until then, the houseplants need watering…” – Moths and Giraffes

“This is the kind of messy art punk I have been wanting to listen to since I knew I could listen to messy art punk. We’re in the basement and we’re bobbing heads to ‘tired, exhausted, tired, tired, exhausted’ and you’re in love with everyone you see and we all really need to take a shower but that’s tomorrow’s problem.” – Josaleigh

‘I can smell the room Josaleigh’s talking about. The room is plastered with gig posters that have soaked up beer, sweat and fumes of the occasional blown amp. The shortest song on this playlist has got everything it needs, a tiny band crammed into a few feet of space, struck down to a few feet of tape. I still have my Tascam Portastudio like Taxidermists are using in this video.’ – Moths and Giraffes
